Welcome to Bedford Borough

Bedford Borough Council, Central Bedfordshire Council and their partners welcome you to Bedfordshire. This guide contains useful information for people arriving from overseas, to enable you to settle in to the area successfully and access vital services.
Bedfordshire has a long history of welcoming new arrivals, many of whom have settled in the county permanently. As a result, Bedford and Luton are the most diverse settlements, ethnically and culturally, in the East of England.
Bedfordshire is made up of the two large towns of Bedford and Luton; a number of smaller towns including Leighton Linslade, Dunstable, Houghton Regis, Biggleswade, Sandy, Potton, Flitwick, Ampthill and Kempston; and a mix of attractive countryside and picturesque villages.
The area is in a central location within England, and is well connected to the rest of the country, particularly through the A1 and M1 trunk roads, three main train lines, and London Luton airport.
